How to Hygge & the Art of Self- Care

Hygge is a term that has surfaced on social media about a year ago and despite some sceptics proclaiming the trend to be over… it’s going as strong as ever! Hygge is a Danish and Norwegian word for a mood of cosiness and comfort with feelings of wellness and contentment. All things scandi have been in for a while now but all hygge is, is the good old art of self-care! Here are our favourite ways of getting in a bit of me-time in this cold weather!

Get Cozy

The weather is now firmly on the cold side and it’s time to whip out all the cosy blankets, jumpers and socks you have! There’s nothing like spending some time wrapped up in front of the fire with some hot chocolate spiked with spices or a shot of Bailey’s! Our favourite ways of making our hot chocolates (or any hot drink, really) more wintery is to sprinkle in some cinnamon & cardamom! Delish!

Take Five

Or ten. Or twenty! Take however much time you can to look after yourself! Whether it’s a quick 5-minute face mask or hand massage, try to do something just for you every day. Our favourite way of relaxing is taking a long bath, exfoliating and leisurely going through our beauty routine (our Velvet Finish Tanning Gel feels super luxurious and nourishing on the skin!). No better way to spend a cold rainy evening!

Switch Off

This one is definitely the hardest to do but the most beneficial when it comes to self-care! We are all glued to our phones, tablets and TVs these days. Try switching your phone to flight mode for an hour, grab a book or your favourite magazines and head for the couch! It’s hard in the beginning but if you stick with it, it will soon become your ritual!
