1. Pick the right tan for your skin type
Picking the right formula of tan is just as important as picking the perfect shade for your skin! If you suffer with dryer skin, consider a tan that will infuse moisture (like the St. Moriz Velvet Finish Tanning Gel). If your skin is not too dry a mist or mousse will be perfect!
2. Prep your skin!
We cannot stress this enough! If you want that perfect, streak free and even glow you have to prep your skin! The colour of your tan will cling to dry skin patches so it is super important that these are removed before you go in with
your self tanner. The prep part of tanning doesn’t have to be a great production, simply use a good body scrub (the St. Moriz Exfoliating Primer is perfect for the job) when you shower before your tanning session. TOP TIP:
for even more effective exfoliation, use the Exfoliating primer on dry skin & then shower off.
3. Fix mistakes tan with… baking soda
It happens to the best of us, if you’re tanning in a hurry the odd streak can appear where you haven’t blended your tan properly. But don’t worry! It’s easy to fix with something you most likely have sitting in your kitchen cupboard –
baking soda! Mix a small amount of baking soda with water to make a paste and rub the streaky part of your tan away. The baking soda paste rubs away streaks gently without disturbing the rest of your tan. You can then go over the patch gently with your tanning mitt to make sure things are blended well. If you made a big boo-boo you can always rescue the situation with our new Tan Remover 😉
4. Get perfectly tanned hands & feet
Hands and feet are famously the most tricky parts to get right when you’re self tanning. The skin on hands and feet is always drier and there’s lots of nooks & crannies… But worry not, we have some tips & tricks to make sure your hands and feet look like they’ve just spent a week in the Maldives!
The first thing is to not skip exfoliator on hands and feet, in fact make sure you spend some extra time here! Secondly, use your mitt very gently and then go in with a
synthetic makeup brush with a small bit of tan on it to blend perfectly. Ta-da!
5. Moisturise to maintain the perfect tan
Just as important as the prep before self tanning is the after care to make sure your tan wears well and lasts long. Something like our Oil-Free Tan Enhancer used once a day is perfect. If you are on holidays and will be spending time in the sun go for the St. Moriz Gradual Tan & Protect instead – it will keep your glow going and protect your skin from harmful rays.
